Rome is the capital city of Italy and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe. It was the center of the Roman Republic and later the Roman Empire, making it one of the most influential cities in ancient history.

Rome is located on the Tiber River and is known for landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Pantheon. The city also contains Vatican City, the headquarters of the Catholic Church.
